...yet all of them have ended

Every sitcom nominated for this year’s prestigious international Rose D’Or TV award comes from Britain.

Spy, The Thick of It and Twenty Twelve are the three shows that will vie for the best sitcom title and next month’s ceremony, it was announced today.

Interestingly, none of the shows will be returning. Last month Sky announced that Spy would not be renewed, while both BBC Two shows have reached the end of their runs.

Britain also dominates the separate comedy category, in which C4 sketch show Cardinal Burns and BBC Three hidden camera show The Revolution Will Be Televised are up against Belgium’s What If.

Meanwhile, Let's Dance for Sport Relief, which features a raft of comedians, is up for the entertainment award alongside Australia’s Gruen Sweat, fronted by comic Wil Anderson, and The Dino Show from The Netherlands.

The UK has ten nominations in total, more than any other nation.

Last year, Britain also won both comedy categories, with Friday Night Dinner being named best sitcom and Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror best comedy.

Annika Nyberg Frankenhaeuser, media director for awards organisers Eurovision, said: ‘The quality and number of entries received in 2013 is exceptional and the judges have chosen top-quality nominees.’

The awards will be announced in Brussels on May 30.
