Ross renews Comedy Award deal

Jonathan to host next two shows

Jonathan Ross has signed up to host the British Comedy Awards for the next two years.

The new contract also confirms that Channel 4 will broadcast the show – which traditionally takes place in December – both this year and next.

Ross has only missed two of the events since they began in 1990. The first was hosted by Michael Parkinson, and in 2008 he stood down because of the furore over the prank call to Andrew Sachs, and was replaced by Angus Deayton.

Channel 4’s head of entertainment, Justin Gorman said: ‘Jonathan has the experience and countless wit and wiles to command a roomful of hopeful and expectant comedians in what tends to be a lively night in the comedy calendar.

‘We are delighted that Jonathan has agreed to continue his role as host and look forward to the night.’

Ross said: ‘I must be mad. But bring it on! It’s always fun, and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.’

The show, which is a Unique TV and CPL Production, will continue to air live.
