Malcolm In The Middle star Jane Kaczmarek has joined the US remake of Gavin & Stacey.

She will take the role of Pam, the overbearing mother of Gavin who was played by Alison Steadman in the BBC original, TVLine reports.

The Fox network are piloting the show, which they have renamed Friends & Family. It had previously been announced that Jason Ritter from Parenthood and Alexis Bledel from Gilmore Girls would play the titular stars.

Dustin Ybarra, who was previously linked to a US remake of Only Fools And Horses, has also been cast as Smithy.

Creators James Corden and Ruth Jones will serve as executive producers on the US remake. Other execs include Steve Coogan and Henry Normal, whose production company Baby Cow made the BBC original.
