Mrs Brown dominates comedy sales

2012 bestsellers' chart published

The apparently unstoppable popularity of Mrs Brown's Boys has been revealed in a new chart of the bestselling entertainment items of 2012.

Brendan O’Carroll’s Irish mammy has three titles in the list of the year’s top 40 entertainment bestsellers – which combines sales of video games, DVDs and CDs.

The DVD of the first series made No 11 in the chart, just below the Hunger Games film, after selling 913,145 copies.

The second series came 27th with sales of 670,956, while the live DVD Good Mourning Mrs Brown sold 585,925, putting it at 34th in the overall entertainment rankings.

The only other comedy title in the chart compiled by the Entertainment Retailers Association is Michael McIntyre’s stand-up title, Showtime, which sold 579,011 copies and came in at No 35.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops II was the year’s bestseller, with 2.7million copies sold.

The chart aggregates sales data from the Official Charts Company (music and video) and GfK Chart-track (video games) to provide a unique annual snapshot of the UK entertainment market.
