Jonathan Creek gets a series

Three episodes after Easter special

Jonathan Creek is to return for a short series following its Easter special.

The three new hour-long episodes will be the first series for Alan Davies’ quirky detective in a decade. Series four was split over two three-part runs in 2003 and 2004, and since then two one-off specials have aired.

The new series will go into production in the autumn and air in 2014.

Davies confirmed the news on Twitter, posting: ‘Jonathan Creek fans, we are making 3 one hour eps in the autumn. No other details yet, hopefully I will be playing Creek.’

The Easter special is titled The Clue Of The Savant’s Thumb, and concerns a secret society, seemingly supernatural events at a girls’ boarding school, and the miraculous disappearance of a body in front of three witnesses.

Davies has previously said: ‘The new story has more than the usual amount of twists and surprises, and I'm very much looking forward to sleuthing again.

‘It's nearly 17 years since I first auditioned for the part; the duffle coat is always on standby, even if the periods of duffle-hibernation are quite long these days.’

Guest stars for the special include Rik Mayall, Nigel Planer, Sarah Alexander, and Joanna Lumley.
