Native Americans demand sitcom apology

Mike & Molly causes offence

Native Americans have demanded an apology over a gag in the sitcom Mike And Molly which portrayed them as drunks.

The Navajo Nation, based in and around Arizona, have called for America’s CBS network to say sorry for a line in a recent episode.

In it, the character Peggy Biggs, a grouch who is forever complaining, snapped: ‘Arizona? Why would I move to Arizona? It's nothing but a furnace full of drunk Indians.’

A spokesman for the Navajo group told the TMZ website: ‘For a show like this displaying us in a negative light is just unacceptable, they are taking a shot at the entire state of Arizona and its indigenous people.

‘An apology would be the right thing to do, but some damage done can't be fixed in an apology,’ the representative said.

Biggs, played by Rondi Reed is the mother of Mike in the sitcom, which airs on Comedy Central on Monday nights in the UK.
