Spoof psychic gets his own show

Comedy psychic Ian D Montfort is to become the first mindreader to have his own radio show in almost 70 years.

The Sunderland medium is the creation of Tom Binns, who combines genuine ‘cold-reading’ techniques used by stage spiritualists, with character comedy.

He has recorded a pilot half-hour show, Ian D Montfort Is: Unbelievable, for one of Radio 2’s Comedy Showcases, to go out later this month.

The show aims to uncover he darkest secrets of the studio audience, while celebrity guest Melanie Sykes will be a 'trusted witness'.

Binns – who also created the hapless hospital radio DJ Ivan Brackenbury said he believed this was the first mindreading show since ‘mental marvel’ Dunninger in the mid-Forties.

He said of his show: ‘Mel Sykes gets a reading, readings come through for random members of audience, there's a psychometry demonstration halfway through and a big WTF finish.’

The show airs on July 19 at 9.30pm.
