And 1m for Ten O'Clock Live

The launch of Kevin Bridges’s own BBC1 show attracted a solid but unspectacular 1.7 million viewers last night.

What’s the Story? – a mix of stand-up and documentary – was seen by about 12.7 per cent of all viewers in the 10.45pm slot.

But the figure is just under 80 per cent of the average audience the BBC would normally expect at that time.

That performance against the slot average was similar for the other comedy shows that launched last night, including Ten O’Clock Live, which drew 1million viewers to Channel 4.

The figure is down on the 1.5million who watched the much-hyped launch of the first series last year, but up on the 883,000 it eventually averaged. Another 103,000 watched an hour later on C4+1.

At the same time Dawn French and Alfred Molina’s returning comedy, Roger and Val Have Just Got In, was seen by 970,000 people – down on the 1.2 million that series one averaged.
