Students get Jacked

Whitehall to host our competition final

Jack Whitehall is to host the final of this year’s Chortle Student Comedy Award.

The TV favourite – who is just about to start regular work on Channel 4’s Stand Up For The Week – will present the event at the Edinburgh Fringe on August 17.

Finalists Matthew Winning, Matt Rees, Ed Patrick, Emerald Paston, Nicholas Cooke, Max Dickins, Ian Smith, Phil Wang and People’s Choice winner Matt Richardson will all be vying for the £1,000 first prize, and all the kudos that entails.

And the event, held at C Plaza – aka the George Square Theatre – will also feature a set from last year’s winner Joe Lycett, now a familiar face on the circuit.

This year’s final is also being staged as part of the Five Pound Fringe, meaning tickets are half the price they were last year. Click here to book them.

Previous winners include Radio 1’s Tom Deacon, while Inbetweeners star Simon Bird was narrowly beaten to the title in 2008 and has only two British Comedy Awards to console himself with.
