Miranda's awards hat-trick

Sitcom up for three RTS gongs

BBC Two’s sitcom Miranda is up for three gongs at this year’s Royal Television Society Programme Awards.

The old-fashioned slapstick comedy goes up against the biting political satire Thick Of It and E4’s teenage comedy The Inbetweeners fod bes scripted comedy.

While star Miranda Hart faces the Thick Of It’s Peter Capaldi – aka vicious spin doctor Malcolm Tucker – and Gavin & Stacey’s Ruth Jones for best comedy performance.

Finally it is again up against the Inbetweeners for best comedy writing, with Jo Brand’s medical sitcom Getting On completing the nominations.

In other categiories, Charlie Brooker’s Newswipe is shortlisted for bst entertainment show, and Michael McIntryre is up for best entertainment performance for his comedy roadshow.

The awards will be handed out on March 16 at the Grosvenor Hotel in London
