The end is nigh...
Eddie Izzard is due to finish his 1,100-mile run through England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland today.
The 47-year-old comic has been running a marathon almost every day since setting off from London seven weeks ago.And he is due back in Trafalgar Square at about 4pm today, having raised a small fortune for Sport Relief. He told GMTV: ‘When we were hunters we used to hunt this way, so everybody should be able to do this.‘Sport Relief, the sister charity to Comic Relief, love it when sportsmen and women do this stuff but when it's ordinary bozos like you and me they like it even better.rnThey thought it was a crazy idea but I said I'm doing it anyway so they supported me.Izzard is hoping to beat his personal best of five hours on this final day, and has used his Twitter account to warn well-wishers he cannot stop to talk. The best time he has recorded so far is five hours 48 minutes.Today’s route begins Potters Bar and takes him through Barent, Tottenham, the Olympic site in Stratford, East London, then through the East End and the City.He began his run on July 27 after just five weeks training, and ran more than 30 miles a day, with just one day off a week, between the capitals of all the home nations. He said a highlight was running up Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, while a low came two weeks in, when his feet blistered. He told the BBC: ‘The feet blistered up terribly in the second week... You get blisters on blisters, which is not very nice. There’s nothing but pain. Izzard also announced a US tour yesterday, including his biggest ever gig in Madison Square Garden in New York.Published: 15 Sep 2009
