Inbetweeners: The movie

Writers work on new script

A movie version of E4’s hit teen sitcom The Inbetweeners is in the works, its creators have revealed.

Writers Damon Beesley and Iain Morris have confirmed that they are working on a script after receiving a commission from Film 4.

They said the idea is to take the sixth formers abroad for a lads’ holiday – echoing such Seventies sitcom-to-film transfers as Holiday On The Buses and the Are You Being Served? movie.

Morris said: ‘We always try to make the show as real as we can, and we think the boys of that age tend to go on holiday abroad - we think a film could do justice to that.

‘Most films I understand never get made, but that's what we're doing.’

However, the writers added that the show’s stars Simon Bird and Joe Thomas have also written a scrip that is ‘annoyingly funnier’ than their own.

The Inbetweeners was named best comedy at the TV Quick and TV Choice awards earlier this week.
