Kay's spoof storms charts

Winners Song outsells the real X-Factor winner

Kay first performed the song in drag as Northern Irish singer Geraldine McQueen in his Channel 4 comedy Britain's Got The Pop Factor And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice last weekend.

A spokesman for Polydor, Kay's record label, said: ‘We're delighted we've won the battle of the X Factor.

Kay, who co-wrote the track with Take That's Gary Barlow, has long had ambitions to be a pop star. His Comic Relief video for Amarillo helped propel the Tony Christie song to No 1 three years ago.

Kay sent z consolatory message to Jackson through his talter-ego: ‘Leon is a lovely wee boy. He's a Scottish Michael Buble. There's enough room for everybody.’
