Diblet comedy sold to Kazakhstan

The Vicar of Dibley is to be dubbed into Kazakh and Russian, so the people of Kazakhstan can enjoy it, too.

Local broadcaster Khabar Agency has bought the rights to the Dawn French comedy from BBC Worldwide.

The show's executive producer Jon Plowman said: ‘This is brilliant. I have always felt that the people of Kazakhstan were the ideal audience for the vicar.

‘Seriously, this is great news and shows how comedy breaks down barriers. I hope they love it.’

Monisha Shah, from BBC Worldwide, said: ‘I am sure that like thousands of others around the world, they will also enjoy the charm and delights of English parish life, so beautifully crafted by Richard Curtis and Dawn French.’

Kazakhstan has not always appreciated British humour – with diplomats becoming furious with Sacha Baron Cohen mocking their nation with Borat.
