Musical's UK tour axed

Producers have axed the planned 2009 UK tour of Monty Python’s Spamalot.

The show is due to close in the West End on January 3, but had been set for an ‘extensive’ tour of regional theatres, starting in April.

However, producers have now dropped that idea, citing only ‘unforeseen circumstances’.

A publicist for the show confirmed: ‘We are disappointed that the UK tour will not be happening.

‘But it is being performed all over the world: it’s on Broadway, on tour in North America, opens in Spain this autumn and in Germany in early 2009.’

It is not known when alternative plans for a British tour will be drawn up.

The show, written by Eric Idle, opened at London’s Palace Theatre in October 2006. Its current cast is led by Sanjeev Bhaskar as King Arthur.
