Kielty escapes driving ban

Despite being clocked at 101mph

Patrick Kielty has escaped a driving ban after being caught speeding at more than 100mph.

The comic had pleaded guilty to speeding at 101mph on the single-carriageway A75 in the south of Scotland on December 27 last year.

At Stranraer Sheriff Court Kielty, 37, was fined £1,200 and received six penalty points on his licence for exceeding the 60mph limit

Leaving court, he joked that the soaring price of petrol meant a ban would have saved him money.

His lawyer, Gerald Tierney, had argued that Kielty was unfamiliar with the road. ‘Having had a busy day working in London, his concentration slipped,’ he told the court.

He also said that Kielty’s charity work would have suffered if he had been banned.
