Fringe box office open for business
The Edinburgh Fringe box office has finally opened for business – eight days late.A new computer system introduced this year has been blighted by problems, which meant that even listings of festival shows were not available on the official edfringe.com website.
Sales over the telephone and in person had been affected, too, but these too have resumed today. The only remaining glitch is that the actual tickets will not be issued immediately, but sent out some time next month.
This was the first year of a new £335,000 box office system being developed for the Fringe by Glasgow-based Pivotal Integration, which blamed ‘a combination of circumstances’ for the crash.
In a statement to festival-goers today, the Fringe Society said: ‘Thank you for your patience while we were restoring the box office service.’
The box office number is 0131 226 0000, or tickets are available online.
Box offices at individual venues were not affected by the failure of the central system, and have been selling tickets since last Monday.
Ironically, one of the main sponsors of this year’s Fringe is Microsoft.
