Gervais to help launch radio station

Ricky Gervais is to host a two-hour show to help music paper NME launch its new radio station next month.

He will be reunited with his podcast crew of Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington for the progamme, which will go out as part of NME Radio's test transmissions.

The show will be broadcast on June 9, then repeated daily at varying times between 1pm-9pm. It will also be available on demand at the NME’s website.

NME Radio will officially launch on June 24 on nme.com as well as Sky, Virgin Media and on DAB digital radio in the south-east of England.

It will also be available on FM at various times around the UK via a series of trial broadcasts starting in London on October 6.

Gervais, Merchant and Pilkington originally presented together on XFM in London before making their series of record-breaking podcasts. The NME show will feature banter and songs.

NME Radio managing director Sammy Jacob, who previously worked with Gervaisat XFM said: ‘Hearing Ricky, Steve and Karl in action again will no doubt keep me on my toes.

‘I used to bury myself hearing Ricky and Steve on air in 1997, fearing we would lose our licence each time they went on Having Karl on board has only made matters worse. I look forward to some compelling radio.’
