Stewart Lee lands BBC2 series

Stewart Lee has landed a six-part stand-up series for BBC Two.

The programme, to be called Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle, has been in the pipeline for more than three years, and a pilot episode recorded late last year finally convinced corporation executives to order a full series, which will go out sometime in 2009.

Producer Richard Webb told Chortle: ‘It'll be stand-up with sketches and video inserts that illustrate what Stewart is talking about, and he'll be exploring a different theme or idea each week.’

Lee is currently writing the show, and will be trying out material during the Edinburgh Fringe and at other live shows this summer

Production starts in October, with the stand-up segments set to be recorded in front of a studio audience in January 2009.

Armando Iannucci is the show’s executive producer.

Lee has not appeared in his own show on TV since This Morning With Richard Not Judy in 1999, alongside Richard Herring.
