Satirist plans newspaper comedy

'It's a window on the world...'

Satirist Alistair Beaton is writing a Radio 4 comedy set in a newspaper office.

Beaton, who previously wrote A Very Social Secretary, pictured, and The Trial of Tony Blair, has visited three national papers to research his six-part show.

He told MediaGuardian: ‘I have wanted to write about newspapers for some time,. want to use the paper as a platform for being satirical about current events and how the modern media works. I want it to be funny and scathing but I also want it to be accurate.

‘It's a window on the world rather than just a series about the media.’

Beaton's other TV credits include Not The Nine O'Clock News and Spitting Image, and he wrote the books The Little Book of New Labour Bollocks and The Little Book of Management Bollocks.
