Student comedy line-ups set

The line-ups have been announced for all the heats of Chortle's Student Comedy Award, which kicks off in Newcastle on Thursday.

More than 130 entries were received for this year’s competition, which comes with a £1,000 first prize.

Two extra heats were added – in Kingston and Coventry – to meet demand, meaning there are now ten. The first is at the Castle Leazes Halls of Residence this Thursday (7), and the last at University of Strathclyde Students' Association on March 19. The final will take place during the Edinburgh Fringe in August.

Each heat will be filmed, and the footage published on Chortle.

Last year’s winner, Tom Deacon, said: 'Winning the competition was the best thing I could have hoped for in becoming a professional stand-up comedian.’
