Some Moms Do 'Ave 'Em

US remake for Frank Spencer

Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em has become the latest unlikely British comedy to be remade for American TV

.

The Fox network has ordered scripts for an American version of the Seventies sitcom about hapless Frank Spencer.

The deal is with the BBC’s Worldwide Production arm and Sony Pictures TV, Hollywood trade newspaper Variety reports

Phil Stark – who previously worked on That Seventies Show and wrote the movie Dude, Where’s My Car – has been signed up to write the Americanised scripts.

He will also be executive producer on the show, which is likely to be renamed for US audiences.

BBC Worldwide's Paul Telegdy said the comedy had long-lasting appeal, telling UK industry newspaper Broadcast: 'Even now, if you sit US executives down to watch an episode they will fall around on the floor laughing. There is nothing quite like it and the fact that it makes people laugh makes it relevant.'

Originally, 22 episodes of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em were made, which ran from 1973 to 1978 on BBC One. Click here to watch a clip.
