Cleese, the cruise-ship comic

But you'll need deep pockets to see him

John Cleese is to become a cruise-ship comedian for the super-rich.

Fans will have to pay around £35,000 for the privilege of hearing him talk.

The ex-Python is one of the celebrities signed up to entertain customers of Silversea cruises on its lavish 50-stop world cruise next year.

Cleese will be on board for the Fort Lauderdale to San Diego leg of the voyage in January.

Full round-the-world trips cost from £35,000, but cheaper segments are available. The 44-day leg from Florida to Hong Kong costs a mere £12,500 per person – or more.

Silversea's Joseph Proto said: ‘We searched the globe to find fascinating personalities and some of the most distinguished and stimulating speakers.’

Cleese promises cruise-goes ‘a grand - and possibly rowdy - look at some of his best works’.

A company spokesman said: ‘Cleese will share insights and anecdotes from a fascinating career that goes well beyond television and cinema.’
