'The funniest fellas and fillies'
Russell Brand, Justin Lee Collins and Alan Carr lead the pack with three nominations apiece, but the shortlist has also produced the lads’ mag’s usual batch of odd celebrity names.
A category for funniest reality star includes the likes of David Gest, Peter Andre and Janet Street-Porter; while Victoria and David Beckham are up for funniest double act, alongside more traditional comedy pairings of Alan Carr and Justin Lee Collins; Noel Fielding and Julian Barrat; David Mitchell and Robert Webb; and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
However Loaded editor Martin Daubney claimed his were ‘the only comedy awards worth their salt’, ahead of the British Comedy Awards, the if.comedy award and the Chortle awards.
He said: ’It’s been a vintage year for comedy and the nominations in this year’s Lafas are a testament to that. The Laftas are voted for by the Great British public which makes them the only comedy awards worth their salt.
‘What we have here are the funniest fellas and fillies in the land - and a few surprises, too. We all know Peter Andre’s a clown, but who’d have thought he’d appear on the same list as such comic genius as Ricky Gervais?'
The Laftas, sponsored by Nivea For Men, will be given out at London’s Pigalle club on October 4.
