Joan gets dramatic

Rivers writes autobiographical play

Joan Rivers has written an autobiographical play, which makes its stage debut this week.

The 70-year comedian also stars in the show, cunningly titled The Joan Rivers Theatre Project, at the San Francisco Magic Theater.

The comedy is set in a dressing room just before Hollywood's biggest award show, where Rivers gears up for to commentate on the red-carpet fashions – with the extra pressure of having to impress a tough new network executive.

Rivers joked: I am so excited that the people at the prestigious Magic Theater are stupid enough to let me do a workshop of my new play in their hallowed grounds.

‘Obviously, the rumors of my porn film, that was accidentally released, have not hit San Francisco yet.’

Rivers co-wrote the show with Doug Bernstein and director Denis Markell.
