Freezing is hot...

BBC2 snaps up BBC4 comedy

BBC Two has snapped up one-off BBC Four comedy Freezing, and is extending it to a three-part terrestrial series.

The sitcom, which starred Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern and Tom Hollander, originally aired as part of the Tight Spot strand of one-off comedies set in claustrophobic environments.

McGovern plays a once-famous actress who now lives in a West London suburb with her husband Matt, who has just lost his job in publishing – forcing them to spend more time together.

The original episode featured various celebrity cameos including Hugh Grant and Richard E Grant, and was seen by 117,000 viewers when it aired on BBC Four in February

BBC Two controller Roly Keating has ordered two more episodes, which will go into production this autumn. They are expected to be broadcast along with the original next year.

Producer Kenton Allen said: ‘The audience reaction to the BBC Four pilot of Freezing was astonishingly positive so we're thrilled to be able to reunite Hugh Bonneville, Tom Hollander and Elizabeth McGovern for some further adventures on BBC2.’
