In with a Bang

C4 buys news US sitcom

Channel 4 has bought the rights to air new US sitcom The Big Bang Theory.

The comedy revolves around two nerdy theoretical physicists who live next door to a beautiful but flaky blonde.

The show comes from Chuck Lorre, co-creator of the Charlie Sheen sitcom Two And A Half Men, and will make its US debut on CBS this network.

It was one of the few comedies launched at the LA Screenings international TV marketplace, amid fears the sitcom genre is on its last legs in the US.

Jeffrey R Schlesinger, from producers Warmer Bros, said: ‘Big Bang Theory was one of the most highly sought-after comedies at this year's LA Screenings, and we are excited to be partnering with C4 in the UK for the premiere of this funny and insightful mass-appeal series that will play to all demographics.’
