12th Bafta nod for Wood

Victoria Wood has gained a record 12th Bafta nomination for her serious role in the ITV drama Housewife, 49.

She stands a chance of winning the best actress award against competition from Anne-Marie Duff for The Virgin Queen, Samantha Morton for Longford and Ruth Wilson for Jane Eyre

Extras stars Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant go head-to-head for best comedy performance, alongside Dawn French and Royle Family star Liz Smith.

That show’s Queen Of Sheba special has also been nominated for best sitcom, alongside Green Wing, The IT Crowd and Pulling.

Ant & Dec, Paul Merton, Jonathan Ross and Stephen Fry are up for best entertainment performance, while Fry’s The Secret Life Of A Manic Depressive is also up for a documentary prize.

Shortlisted for best comedy are The Catherine Tate Show, Little Britain Abroad, Little Miss Jocelyn and That Mitchell & Webb Look.

The Royle Family special has also been nominated for the audience award, alongside Life On Mars, Dragons' Den, The Vicar Of Dibley Christmas Special, Planet Earth and the controversial Celebrity Big Brother

Entourage and My Name Is Earl are up for best international award, against House and Lost.
