America imports Stupid

BBC sitcom set for NBC remake

BBC Three sitcom I’m With Stupid, set in a home for the disabled, is to be adapted for American TV by the Farrelly brothers.

Filmmakers Peter and Bobby, who were responsible for such blockbusters as Dumb and Dumber and There’s Something About Mary, are working on a remake for the NBC network.

Friends writer Wil Calhoun will be adapting the script for US audiences, showbiz journal Variety reports, and the producer will be Ben Silverman, the man behind current American sitcom hit Ugly Betty.

The show, described by the BBC as ‘a contemporary Odd Couple style comedy which explores disability in a funny and truthful way’ follows the friendship between a homeless man and a wheelchair user.

NBC has ordered a pilot of the show, which will feature the BBC’s Kenton Allen among its executive producers.

The original series was written by Danny Peak, a former winner of the BBC Talent New Sitcom Writers Award who cut his teeth on Two Pints of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps.
