Calls of the wild
Fonejacker featureds such characters as George, an African scamster, Mr Doovde who bewilders his victims by talking in strange abbreviations and Mr Miggins, the elderly gentleman who keeps talking about genies in his house.
Animation stills and filmed footage accompanies the prank calls.
The show, written and performed by Kayvan Novak, originally aired in the experimental Comedy Lab strand in May.
Now Channel 4’s commissioning editor for comedy, Shane Allen, has ordered six half-hour shows from Hat Trick Productions.
He said: ‘Fonejacker has the rare alchemy of a brilliantly versatile character comedian at heart, a staggering amount of superb concepts and stylish execution to make it a brash and daring brand new comedy.’
Executive producer Mario Stylianides added: ‘This a laugh-out loud funny show. Once you've seen Fonejacker, you'll never take another cold call.’
Novak is best known as the actor who played Amir Sadati in the Channel Five soap Family Affairs.
