Chris gets festival honour

Chris Rock is to be honoured with the top award at a Las Vegas comedy festival.

He will be given The Comedian award during an hour-long tribute show at Caesar's Palace on November 17, as part of the five-day festival backed by the HBO television network.

HBO chief Chris Albrecht said: ‘In a relatively short time, Chris Rock has catapulted from a teenage club comedian to one of the most innovative, honest and funniest comedians of our time.’

‘Artistically, he has never been afraid to push boundaries beyond their limits, redefining and raising the bar on cutting-edge humour.’

The event, known simply as The Comedy Festival, is now in its second year and this time around will also host America’s Comic Relief fundraiser.

Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams will host the three-hour benefit on November 18, which will be aired live on TV.

The line-up will include Roseanne Barr, Ray Romano and Rita Rudner, and money raised will help rebuild New Orleans following the Hurricane Katrina tragedy.
