ITV buys US Office

Series 2 to air this month

ITV is to air the US version of The Office after buying the rights to two series of the award-winning show.

The first season ran on BBC Three last year, attracting an average of 254,000 viewers.

But the commercial broadcaster has acquired series two and three from NBC, breaking the franchise’s link with the corporation that fostered  Ricky Gervais's original.

The second series will start on ITV2 on September 24 at 10.40pm.

It marks a determined push by the channel to buy up acclaimed US comedies. ITV2 starts airing the HBO hit Entourage, about a hot young Hollywood actor and his hangers-on, from this weekend.

Jay Kandola, director of acquisitions for ITV, said: ‘We are delighted to have acquired this hit show.

‘This will sit very well in the schedule alongside the huge US hit Entourage, which airs this Sunday.’

The Office, which stars Steve Carell, recently won the Emmy for outstanding comedy series
