Wake up with Russell
Russell Brand could be the Channel 4's next face of breakfast TV.
The channel is considering a number of possible programmes for the early-morning slot, including a live topical show fronted by the stand-up.
Independent production house Hat Trick, the company behind Have I Got News For You, has already made a half-hour pilot of the The Good, The Bad And The Early.
Brand, who previously hosted Kings Of Comedy for digital station E4, will lead a team of presenters and guests should the show be picked up.
He was previously a presenter on MTV, until his drug-fuelled lifestyle got the better of him, a story he told in an Edinburgh Fringe show last year.
But, according to trade newspaper Broadcast, there are at least three other shows in the frame, including one from Princess Productions which made the short-lived RI:SE for the station in 2003.
Channel 4 executive Adam MacDonald has previously said that a number of 30-minute show could fit into the 7am to 9am slot, alongside the imported sitcoms that currently air at that time.
Any new show is expected to launch this spring.Published: 13 Jan 2005
