Hail King Andrew
Andrew Maxwell has been crowned King Of Comedy in the E4 reality show.
But his victory was marred after favourite Boothby Graffoe stormed out the house last night in a fit of drunken pique.
After drinking four bottles of red wine, Graffoe awoke in the middle of the night, upturned the kitchen table and walked off the set, despite the efforts of his housemates to change his mind.
He said: “If I wait until I’m sober, I won’t do what I want to do. I wanted to do this on day one.”
Maxwell paid tribute to Graffoe at the start of his winning performance in tonight’s live final.
And after winning a phone vote against Stan Boardman and Mick Miller, he said: “I’ve never won anything in my life – thank you very much.” He now wins the chance to make a pilot comedy show.
He added that the comics, who spent a month together in the house in Bristol, had become friends and revealed: “I’m going to Blackpool to do some gigs with Mick.”
Boardman, who came second, said: “He’s a worthy winner that lad.”
Earlier, Maxwell explained that Graffoe had left because he was furious at the unfairness of the series that saw the comics undertake all manner of bizarre tasks.
Graffoe had previously ‘defended’ newcomer Ava Vidal in a mock court case, when she went head-to-head in an elimination showdown with Maxwell.
She had been reluctant to take part in the challenge, feeling it was unfair for Maxwell’s to even feel under threat from her – with his 12 years experience compared to her 18 months.
Other comics evicted over the previous four weeks wereScott Capurro, Janey Godley and David Copperfield.Published: 28 Oct 2004
