Radio 4 to air rare material

Previously unheard Peter Cook material is to be aired in a new Radio 4 archive series.

Peter Cook In His Own Words promises rare sketches and revealing  interviews from the comedian’s 36-year career.

Producer Lucy Armitage said: “You'll hear footage here that you've never heard before - that's a guarantee.”

The first episode, to air at 11.30am on October 29, covers his time from entertaing fellow pupils at Radley School to Beyond The Fringe E.L. Wisty’s first appearances on On The Braden Beat.

Subsequent shows will cover his partnership with Dudley Moore, including the Derek and Clive tapes, his involvement with Private Eye and his later appearances on the likes of The Last Resort with Jonathan Ross and  Clive Anderson Talks Back.

The four-part show is presented by Michael Palin, who also contributes personal anecdotes about Cook.
