127 comics shatter Guinness record

The attempt to break the world record for the most comics on a single bill has been a success.

A total of 127 comics performed at Friday night's gig at the Manchester Comedy Festival, breaking the record of 102 set at the 2001 event.

Evidence of the night at the Dancehouse Theatre will now be sent to the Guinness Book Of Records to be validated.

The total falls short of the 150 organisers hoped for, with several acts - including headliner Johnny Vegas - dropping out.

However, it should still be enough for the record, as well as raising money for the Francis House Children's Hospice.

The event's official website said: " It was an unforgettable night. There was drinking, nudity, double acts, drinking, musical acts, drinking, some more nudity, several ovations, marshmallow eating, the comedy police and far too much to mention."

Stand-Up 150 was organised by comics Jason Cooke, Des Sharples, Tony Kinsella and Joey Jackson, with the acts each performing two-minute sets.
