The comedy pirate

Unlicenced radio station launches

A pirate radio station has been launched, broadcasting comedy five nights a week.

Attic Radio promises to transmit unlicensed recording of comics including Eddie Izzard and Peter Kay (pictured) over the Internet.

But the playlist isn't confined to new comics - Bernard Manning and Roy 'Chubby' Brown are also planned.

On its website, the station, based in Darwen in Lancashire, boasts: "I'm aware of the laws. If you don't like it, don't listen."

And where a copyright notice might be expected, it reads: "I can't really put a copyright notice here, due to the fact I'm in breach of it myself."

Attic Radio broadcasts from 6pm Sunday to Thursday, but not weekends because "I'm at the pub".

Pirate radio stations are usually closed down because they break broadcast laws, but web-based stations' main concern would be copyright infringement, which is a civil matter.
