'I wanted to kill myself'

Bremner talks of his depression

Rory Bremner says he has suffered terrible depressions, and at times wanted to kill himself.

The satirist said that even after a good performance he felt suicidally low.

Talking to Esther Rantzen, for her show to be broadcast this Sunday, he said the problem may be that he always tries to take on too much.

Bremner, who is currently performing a West End version of his Channel 4 show, said: "I can remember about four or five years ago when I was having a particularly bad day.

"I was doing a charity show and it was great, the audience were falling about laughing. But I walked out and wanted to walk under a bus."

"I don't think my depression was clinical, just the circumstances I was in. I was in some very strange personal relationships. Everything else - work - was going well but I was unhappy personally."

But Rory told Rantzen that he is now over his troubles, Teletext reports.

"I think I'm now recovered. I got married again three years ago and I'm looking forward to spending time with my 16-month-old daughter.

"At the lowest time, outside I looked very jolly, but I was feeling very bad inside. But I'm all right now."
