Rob Kemp’s Elvis Dead to be released - on VHS
The Elvis Dead, Rob Kemp’s cult live show which retold a classic horror movie through Elvis Presley-style songs, is to be released on VHS.
Go Faster Stripe, the label behind the unusual release, say it is ‘just like it would have been if it came out at the same time as The Evil Dead 2’.
Boss Chris Evans added that it was ‘the most beautiful object I think we have ever produced’.
The over-the-top 1987 film, directed by Sam Raimi, stars Bruce Campbell as a man who discovers an audio tape of recitations from an ancient Book Of The Dead which unleashes demons that possess and torment him.
Kemp set the shocks to Elvis-style numbers for his 2017 Edinburgh Fringe show, which became a cult hit and earned him a best newcomer nomination. Kemp was also named best newcomer in the following year’s Chortle Awards.
The VHS release does not solely rely on archaic tech, as buyers also get a download code for a full HD version, extras, and an MP3 audio version of the show, as well as a lyric booklet.
Order it here, priced £20.
