'I shouldn’t like it, but it made me howl with laughter'
Edinburgh Fringe comedian Njambi McGrath shares her Perfect Playlist...
Bill Burr
There’s something about Bill Burr that makes me crave his comedy. I listen to his special on Spotify on my long journeys and I never tire.
To the untrained ear one would assume he’s bigoted until one listens again and finds out he is in a mixed-race relationship. My favourite joke is one where he’s punching muffins at a fair and tries to explain to his girlfriend why he’s laughing to himself…
Jim Jefferies
I never expected to be a fun of Jim Jefferies until I saw his viral clip on guns in America. His wit and logic in the clip is brilliant.
People say they have guns for protection but keep them in a safe, as if the burglar would wait for someone to get to the code and get the weapon loaded. This routines ultimately led me to watch several of his Netflix specials and his earlier work.
Robin Williams: Weapons of Mass Destruction
This is another special that has entertained me on many a journey. Robin Williams’ take on politics was brilliant and one of his many jokes that stick to my mind is that Sarah Palin, in high school, was voted least likely to write a book… and most likely to burn one.
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm
This is silly and I shouldn’t like it, but it made me howl with laughter. It’s politically incorrect with his daughter kept in a cage in which she travels in. When she accidently swallows a baby and he takes her to the clinic, he is talking at cross purposes with the anti-abortion doctor.
I love the father daughter dance in the debutant ball where the daughter has her period and she spreads her legs to the horror of the guests.
South Park
Friends Eric Cartman, Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski and ever-dying Kenny McCormick, are young friends navigating their way through childhood, is dark humour at its finest.
Their view of the world is warped, and the playboy chef is always at hand to infuse more humour.
Other characters are brilliant especially their teacher with his teaching tool Mr Hand. My favourite episode where the kids find out their parents gave them chicken pox, so they go on a quest to give their parents herpes.
Family Guy
A big fat slob, a pathetic role model for his children... and even his dog has more wit and panache than him. I doubt he fathered his baby son Stewie, a posh, eccentric English man trapped in the body of a baby.
Peter Griffin is the lovable buffoon who is more open minded than most. His friends are a pervert, a disabled policeman and a black dude. He is an all-American family man who loves his family and ever suffering wife Lois.
