Radio 4 series for Kenyan comic Njambi McGrath
Radio 4 has ordered a four-part series from comedian Njambi McGrath.
The programme will be based on her 2019 Edinburgh show Accidental Coconut, which featured stories about her childhood in Kenya and her parents living through apartheid.
She said she was ‘ delighted and over the moon’ with the commission.
The news comes weeks after Expectation Entertainment, the production company behind Sky One sitcom Intelligence optioned the TV rights to McGrath’s memoir, Through The Leopard’s Gaze.
And she previously made a BBC World Service programme about why she shares her family story through stand-up.
The new series will be produced by Edinburgh-based Dabster Productions, who have previously made shows with Rosie Jones, Suggs, Fred MacAulay, Terry Alderton and John Moloney.
Company boss Richard Melvin said ‘I can’t wait to start working with Njambi again later this year on this exciting new Radio 4 project. She’s incredibly funny, insightful and challenging. I think the listeners are going to love what we’ve got planned.
