Jamie Demetriou scoops a Rose d'Or
Jamie Demetriou has won a prestigious international TV award for his Netflix comedy special.
A Whole Lifetime With Jamie Demetriou cooped the comedy entertainment category at the Rose d’Or awards in London last night.
Brits had dominated the category with the shortlist also including parody show Gregg Wallace: The British Miracle Meat; Hold The Front Page with Josh Widdicombe and Nish Kumar; Kieran Hodgson’s comedian-studded Prince Andrew: The Musical and Taskmaster Series 15. The only non-UK show nominated in this section was German Genius.
Demetriou’s show was made by BBC Studios and Guilty Party Pictures, the production company run by Simon Bird, Jonny Sweet and producer Spencer among others.
Lee Mack’s ITV gameshow The 1% Club won the studio entertainment category, while he comedy drama and sitcom prize went to the French-German-Belgian co-production Parlement. Based in the European Parliament post-Brexit, the comedy features Liz Kingsman among its cast.
The emerging talent award went to US rising star Ayo Edebiri for her breakout performance in the comedy hit, The Bear, while the performance of the year award went to Sarah Lancashire for her portrayal of Catherine Cawood in the BBC’s Happy Valley.
The awards attracted more than 700 entries from 30 countries
Chair of the Rose d’Or, Mark Rowland said: ‘It was a tough challenge for the judges – it came down to an incredibly strong group of finalists and to these worthy winners. For anyone who hasn’t watched these shows yet, you have a treat in store.’
Jean Philip De Tender, of the European Broadcasting Union, added: ‘A Rose d’Or award is an accolade, an achievement, and a celebration of the very best programme making. Congratulations to the award winners who have told these stories and impacted us all.’
