From Haters to lovers
Comic Isabel Fay has landed a commission from top producers Hat Trick – thanks to the success of a video she made for YouTube.
Thank You Haters – a response to internet trolls – went viral this summer, attracting more than 800,000 views. It was named best music video a the LA Comedy Awards last month, and only yesterday won The Poke award for best online sketch.
Now she is to make a romantic sitcom for Hat Trick’s new online venture Bad Teeth, with the working title Brett & Emma.
Fay said: ‘It's about a rather socially awkward couple who meet by chance and seem to be perfect for each other... except for the fact that they live on different continents. He's in Los Angeles and she's in London, so they're staying in touch via internet video calls.
‘It's a rather sweet off-beat romcom really... a romantic farce for the digital age.’
Fay – who is co-writing the series with sketch writer Matthew Stott – is playing Emma, but the male actor based in California has not yet been named.
At least six episodes have been commissioned, and are due online early next year.
