Dave Chappelle tops Netflix stand-up ratings
Dave Chappelle had the most-watched stand-up special on Netflix in the first six months of the year.
His controversial show The Dreamer, which was released on New Year’s Eve, attracted 17.4million views, making it the 45th most-watched of all programmes put out by the streamer globally.
Black comedians dominated the charts, taking four out of the top five place.
The top ten stand-up specials of the period were:
1. Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer (17.4m)
2. Katt Williams: Woke Foke (10.3m)
3. Kevin Hart: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor (7.1m)
4. Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs (6.1m)
5. Mike Epps: Ready to Sell Out (5.9m)
6. Ricky Gervais: Armageddon (5.4m)
7. Jo Koy Live From Brooklyn (5m)
8. Taylor Tomlinson: Have It All (4.9m)
9. Jimmy Carr: Natural Born Killer (4million)
10. Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli (3.75million)
Gervais’s special was released on Christmas Day, so its first week of viewings were not counted in this latest ‘data dump’ release by the streamer yesterday.
And while Chappelle had the biggest stand-up special it was beaten by The Roast of Tom Brady, which received 22.4million views and featured comics including Kevin Hart, Nikki Glaser, Sam Jay and Jeff Ross.
The most-watched Neetflix shows overall were, in order, Fool Me Once (108m views) , Bridgerton (92m), Baby Reindeer (88m) and The Gentlemen (76m). All four were made in the UK.
The most-watched sitcom was Young Sheldon, even though it is not available globally.
