Dave Chappelle has won his first Grammy award.

The comic – who is heading the the UK for three work-in progress gigs this week – scooped the title for his special The Age Of Spin & Deep In The Heart Of Texas.

Chappelle also appeared in Kendrick Lamar's opening medley, which he used to highlight the issues of Black Lives Matter. U2's Bono and The Edge also joined him.

The comic said: 'I just wanted to remind the audience that the only thing more frightening than watching a black man be honest in America is being an honest black man in America.'

Also nominated were Jim Gaffigan for Cinco; Jerry Seinfeld for Jerry Before Seinfeld; Sarah Silverman for A Speck Of Dust and Kevin Hart for What Now?

Carrie Fisher won a posthumous award for best spoken word album for The Princess Diarist, her journals kept during the filming of Star Wars.

This year's awards, the 60th, were hosted by James Corden for the second year running and held in New York.

Bruno Mars was the big winner, scooping album, single and song of the year.

Tickets for Chapelle's London shows sold out within minutes of going on sale on Saturday morning, even though they were priced £60 for work-in-progress shows.
