Taskmaster to open a live experience
Taskmaster is to become a live experience – after more than 250,000 fans said they would like to take part.
In December, producers of the hit Channel 4 show said they would create a venue where fans can take part in the sort of ridiculous challenges seen on air – if 100,000 viewers signed up to a mailing list.
Now that target has been shattered, a replica of some of the familiar locations from the show is to open in London for four months from September.
In a statement, Taskmaster Greg Davies and his assistant Alex Horne, who created the show, said: ‘We were hoping 100,000 people might sign up to the live experience mailing list, but when 250,000 did, we were excited and scared respectively. Do you want to compete in ludicrous tasks, just like your favourite comedians? Of course you do!’
Fans will be able to take part in tasks set in the lab, living room, shed and elsewhere in a battle for points, culminating in a final in the studio theatre where one player will win the Taskmaster’s seal of approval.
The live experience will have two unique gameplay experiences to choose from, Melon Buffet and Absolute Casserole, each containing different tasks and challenges. There are bespoke videos throughout from Horne who has finally got his own team of assistants – dubbed Little Little Alex Hornes – to lead participants through the tasks.
The Experience starts and ends in the Taskmaster Garden, giving guests the chance to explore what’s really in the shed, have a photo with the cow, and discover hidden tasks, along with the Taskmaster Museum, a caravan bar with Taskmaster themed drinks like Bin Juice cocktail and Caskmaster beer, and food.
The show opens at Dock X in Canada Water – which previously was the home of Macbeth starring Ralph Fiennes – from September 18 to January 25.
Those signed up to the mailing list at TaskmasterLiveExperience.com will be entered into a ballot for tickets on June 19, with other places going on general sale two days later.
Taskmaster is not the first TV show to become a live experience. There is already a Crystal Maze experience in London and Manchester, and a Cube live experience in Manchester. There’s also a live version of board game Monopoly in the capital.
