Watch comic Reuben Solo give HIMSELF the America's Got Talent golden buzzer

Aussie heads to the Edinburgh Fringe next month

Australian comic Reuben Solo got the golden buzzer on America's Got Talent last night – but only because he pressed it himself.

The stand-up triggered the confetti and We Are The Champions soundtrack after having been given the thumbs down by three of show's judges: Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara.

He started his routine by plotting the crowd's reaction on a graph and then went to the judges' table to ask their opinion. Although Vergara said she was 'not yet' enjoying his set, a voiceover pretended that she was offering gushing praise.

And when he turned to Cowell, he pressed the first red buzzer, quickly followed by the others – before Solo took matters into his own hands, prompting Howie Mandel to compete the set and shut down the routine.

At the start, Solo had promised: 'It’s so hard to stand out; there are so many comedians, so, I’ve cooked up something a little bit different for you guys.'

But as Cowell said as the Aussie faced a chorus of boos from the audience for subverting the show's format: 'That wasn’t great; it just didn’t work.'

Mandel added: 'It's a long way to come to bomb.'

Solo brings his latest show, Please Clap, to the Edinburgh Fringe from August 13 when he plays Just The Tonic at The Caves.
