Joe Lycett on Laura Kuenssberg
Joe Lycett delivered the ultimate insult to Liz Truss this morning… by taking her entirely seriously.
The comic appeared on Laura Kuenssberg’s new BBC One political programme this morning and countered claims of left-wing bias on the BBC by saying: ‘I’m actually very right-wing
Speaking about an interview Truss gave about the cost-of-living crisis, Lycett deadpanned: ‘ I loved it. I thought she was very clear… I’m reassured
‘The haters will say that we’ve had 12 years of the Tories and that we’re at the dregs of what they’ve got available… I wouldn’t say that because I’m incredibly right-wing.’
And he backed the woman likely to be anointed Prime Minster this week when she cautioned against predicting the future – in the face of dire economic forecasts.
His stance won widespreak praise, with LBC's James O'Brien tweeting: 'Beyond brilliant. These ludicrous discussions & pretty much all political panels dance around the fact that we’re governed by dissembling imbeciles propelled to power by the epic lies of Brexit. Presenters like @bbclaurak are complicit. @joelycett just found the antidote. Genius.'
Later in the show, Lycett said: 'It was nice to hear from Rishi Sunak. He’s not going to be Prime Minister so you may as well have interviewed Peter Andre.'
