Ukrainian comedian performs in a Kyiv bom shelter

Anton Tymoshenko jokes about the conflict

Ukrainian comedian Anton Tymoshenko has performed in a Kyiv bomb shelter to raise money for the war effort.

The comic was performing in English for the first time, and apologised for any language mistakes. But he had an unimpeachable reason for any gags that fell flat, explaining: ‘I wrote it in a week, so sorry if it’s not funny. I was in a hurry to avoid death.’

In his set, he joked about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's past career as a comic, saying: ‘If you are a good comedian in the USA you can have a late-night show. If you are a good comedian in Ukraine, you can destroy Russia.’

Posting the 17-minute clip to YouTube, he added: ‘If you know someone from Netflix, share this video with them. If Netflix contacts me I promise to learn grammar and start doing Trump impressions.’

He is raising money for the Come Back Alive campaign and the Prytula Foundation.
