Briggs & Tim Minchin: HouseFyre

New track lays into Aussie Prime Minister Scott Morrisson

Tim Minchin has released a new music video slamming Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison over his response to coronoavirus and the wildfires that swept the nation earlier this year.

The track, HouseFyre, is a collaboration with rapper Briggs – who also calls himself  Senator Briggs–  put together over the internet.

Minchin told The Music: ‘I’ve been wanting to do something with Briggs for years but couldn’t work out what idea to go to him with.

‘Then a few days ago, he sent a track over and asked if I’d wanna write a chorus for it. I think my exact words were "fuck yeah". So much fun to make, and such a buzz to work with the Senator.’

The song criticises Morrison for going on holiday to Hawaii during the bushfire crisis and 'fumbling' his handling of the coronavirus. One lyric goes ‘We're good little citizens sitting in the bunker just / watching the boss fumble like my befuddled uncle does’, while another describes him as ‘Scotty from marketing shuffling his papers / wondering why Jesus hasn't come to save us’.
